Ricky Grant day unit was delighted to welcome some of the dedicated people who raised the funds needed to purchase two new scalp cooling machines for a thank you cream tea.
The funds were raised for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity during 2022 and will support patients undergoing chemotherapy. Each machine costs £10,000, with further costs for maintenance and training; all of which has been raised by fundraisers.
The Paxman units work by reducing the temperature of the scalp by a few degrees immediately before, during and after the administration of chemotherapy. This in turn reduces blood flow to hair follicles, which can prevent or minimise hair loss. The funds were raised by individuals and groups such as Dartmouth Rotary and Pat and Zoe’s Fundraising Events.
