As part of BT’s National 2025 PSTN shut off the network and telephony team need to carry out some migration work to move the current system to the new VOIP (Voice over Internet) system. This will only affect Torbay Hospital.
Outbound calling (calling out to external numbers from the hospital):
On Monday 09 October 8am through until Sunday 15 October 8pm you may notice that outbound calling from your phone will be unavailable for 10-15 seconds. This will not affect already live calls. We will be making these changes to all phones during the week to minimise impact.
Inbound calling (patients and public calling in to the hospital):
On Saturday 28 October from 10am – 2pm the number range 01803 656000 – 01803 656999 (internal range 56000-56999) will be unavailable and staff whose phones are within this range will be unable to receive external calls in from the public.
On Saturday 04 November 10am – 2pm the number range 01803 654000 – 01803 655899 (internal range 54000-55899) and 01803 652950 – 01803 652999 (internal range 52950-52999) will be unavailable and staff whose phones are within this range will be unable to receive external calls in from the public.
Please note this will also impact the main hospital number (01803 614567), we will be working with the communications team to inform the public they can call 01803 656000 during this time if they are unable to get through to 01803 614567. This call will go to the same place as the main number.
In an emergency, please use the Alcatel backup phone system as this will not be affected by this work. Please note that internal calls (between any Torbay sites) will not be affected during this time.
We will have members of the networks and telephony team on site during this time if you have any issues, and to also complete extensive testing before, during and after the work.
If you experience any issues with calls during or after this work, please contact the service desk on #6282 or 0300 500 7000. Additionally, if you have any queries regarding the work please email comms.sdhct@nhs.net or call 01803 653520. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
