Ainslie ward receives certificate for best attendance to palliative care ward training

In response to the CQC visit feedback we received earlier this year, we have made a commitment to improve palliative care.

Palliative care bitesize training was set up and since March we have delivered training to 226 members of staff across the organisation.

The team deliver two different sessions across wards, with training arranged for bite-sized sessions which run monthly for community staff on MS Teams. Each session contains two topics and in total takes 20 minutes:

  • ‘End of life (EOL) medications’ and ‘recognising dying’
  • ‘Managing secretions in palliative care’ and ‘after death care’

Planned future sessions include:

  • ‘Managing pain in palliative care’ and ‘food and fluid at EOL’
  • ‘Managing bowels in palliative care’ and ‘doctrine of double effect’
  • ‘Managing nausea in palliative care’ and ‘discharging EOL patients’

Well done to Ainslie ward who have had 36 members of the team to complete the training. Last week they were presented with a certificate to celebrate their dedication to professional development and passion for caring.

Junior ward sister on Ainslie, Sarah Hill said: “Partaking in bitesize palliative care education sessions whereby the most up to date practice is taught, enables us as a ward to deliver best practice high quality patient centred care. These sessions are short and informative. We have developed a great working relationship with the palliative care team and thank them for their support!”
