Wednesday 13 September is world sepsis day. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition and one of the leading causes of death in the world with someone dying from it every 3.5 seconds. Within the UK, the Sepsis Trust estimates that sepsis claims 48,500 lives a year.
Sepsis is a global health concern and as frontline healthcare professionals, you play a pivotal role in its prevention, early detection and treatment.
Our guidelines around sepsis and how we handle sepsis are changing, and we’re aiming to launch our new policy at the end of October 2023.
Earlier this year, with the help of the Sepsis Trust, we launched new e-learning courses for all clinical staff to raise awareness of the causes, signs and treatment of sepsis. This training will cover the recognition, assessment, treatment and escalation of the signs and symptoms to look out for and what to do if a person in your care is displaying them.
We have had a great take up in the courses so far and some really positive feedback.
If you are in a clinical role and haven’t yet done the e-learning course, please do so as soon as possible.
